Help America Vote Act
One of the most important pieces of legislation that I carried this year will add an additional safeguard to our most important public process, our elections.
House Bill 1018, which has officially become law, ensures implementation of the Statewide Voter Registration and Election system, also known as SCORE, and makes the state compliant with the federal government’s Help America Vote Act.
HB 1018 protects the integrity of our electoral process. This new law will inject another level of accountability into our elections and prevent voter fraud.
The new law will require the removal of duplicate registrations from voter rolls, and tracks voters to see if they have voted more than once. The law will also create a statewide voter database through the Secretary of State.
Voting is the most important part of democracy. We need to protect the right of everyone to vote, and we must also ensure that no one is taking advantage of the system by voting more than once.
The bill was sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Nancy Spence, R-Centennial.
